Ana MartiĢnez Orizondo, Pastel Artist

Ana believes in the power of the imagination and the will to create oneā€™s own path. Throughout her career, she has re-invented herself from an Emmy award television producer to a cultural arts entrepreneur, an event professional, a philanthropy executive, and now, a self-taught pastel artist.

Her practice began as a healing journey and has expanded into a mode of being in the world. Her work explores themes of spirituality as well as identity and culture through landscape, nature, and self-portraiture. She is fascinated by mystical liminal states of in-betweenness, portals to otherness, and amorphous forms. The textural play between soft and hard pastels on smooth or ragged paper adds to the push and pull of her creative process and its transformative power.

Born in Cuba, raised in New York City with a thirty-year stop in Miami, Ana returned to the Big Apple in 2017. She currently lives in Shelter Island, N.Y. where she takes many long walks among the trees.
